The Coach
The Coaches
Darcy Gray
I received my level 1 coaching certification back in 1999 while attending Mt. A, and coaching a girls middle school basketball team. In 2003, I moved home and since that time I've assisted with the Sugarloaf Senior High J.V. Boys, coached the Eastern Door and the North Midget Girls team for the 2006 North American Indigenous Games in Denver, Colorado, and had my 3rd annual LED Basketball Camp this past summer.
I'm now into my third year as coach of the AGS Boys Basketball team, and my fifth year overall. The first run was to get the program going from 1999 to 2001. I left for college and had to take a break from the team. In the fall of 2005 I was asked to take over the reigns once again and have been enjoying it ever since.
Coaching Philosophy
My philosophy for coaching might be different than most. First off I don't make any cut's on my team. Every player who tries out for the team can make the team, no matter their skill level. What I do look for is heart, effort and dedication. My tryouts are extended over a longer period so that I am left with player who truly want to play basketball. I work with all players to improve their skills and confidence, and love it when players ask me how they can improve their game.
From my perspective it has proven to be quite succesful. Maybe not always in the win columns, but in the development of great young man, who have gained new skills and self confidence that will carry over to other parts of their lives.
My Basketball Mentors
Sadly this year I am without one of my key assistants from last year. I wish you the best Iesha and please keep us up to date on what's going on. We miss your dedication and support. Thank you for everything!
